LeadGenesis Privacy Policy

LeadGenesis will regularly review and update this privacy policy to reflect changes to applicable privacy laws such as GDPR and CCPA and how we handle your personal information. It does not apply to any website or practices used by any third party. This privacy policy also does not apply to information that we receive or maintain on behalf of our customers in our role as a service provider since such terms are governed by the applicable service agreements with our customers.

Our role and where your information comes from

LeadGenesis is a business-to-business demand generation provider. We run content syndication and display advertising programs on behalf of client companies. This means we may hold professional contact information about you even if you have never visited theleadgenesis.com.

We collect information from the following sources: registration and download forms hosted on campaign landing pages and on publisher properties operated by us or our partners; publisher and media partners within our distribution network, who provide information collected under their own notices and permissions; third-party business data providers; and publicly available professional sources.

Where you register for a piece of content through one of our campaigns, that content is normally sponsored by a client. We provide your registration details to that client so they can follow up with you. Once we do, the client decides how it uses your information and acts as an independent controller of it. This policy does not govern what a client does with your information after we deliver it. Their own privacy notice does.

For personal information we collect and supply through these programs, LeadGenesis acts as a controller. Where we process information solely on a client's behalf and under their instructions, for example when measuring engagement on pages the client operates, we act as a processor, or as a service provider under United States privacy laws.

Which categories of personal information do we collect and process?

We collect your personal information when you subscribe to our website or give your consent to our agents to collect and process your personal information. If the information we collect is not listed in this Policy, we will provide consumers with an appropriate Notice of which other information we will collect and how we will process it.

In the context of this Policy, personal information refers to information that can be used to identify, locate, or contact a consumer.

The categories of personal information we collect and process in the context of the processing activities outlined in this Policy are:

We do not use cookies and similar optimization technologies on our website to measure website traffic and usage activity or gather information, such as the date and time of visits, geographic location, pages viewed, IP address, links to/from any page, browser type and version, operating system, referral source, and time spent on our website.

With your consent, we may also collect additional personal information, including emails, surveys, and other forms of communication.

Suppose you provide us with personal information about another person. In that case, you are responsible for notifying such person of the information in this Policy and obtaining consent from such person to share the information with us.

Personal information about minors

Our services are not directed to individuals under 18, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under eighteen (18) years of age. If we become aware that a child under eighteen (18) has provided us with personal information, we will take steps to delete such information. We will take the necessary steps to delete the information we hold about that minor.

How do we collect your personal information?

The categories of personal information referenced above are collected directly from you through your interactions with our website, for example, when signing up for our monthly newsletter, downloading certain content, communicating with us, etc. Your personal information may also be collected from public sources, such as social networking websites. Your decision to provide us with your personal information is voluntary, except where laws or LeadGenesis policies require us to collect specific information from you. Please, be advised that we may not be able to provide some or all of our services that require the use of your personal information if you do not provide us with certain personal information.

What sensitive personal information do we collect?

We do not collect sensitive personal information as defined below through our website or otherwise. In the unlikely case where we seek to collect such data, we will do so per applicable privacy laws after obtaining your consent.

Sensitive personal information refers to various categories of personal information requiring special treatment per data privacy laws, including in some circumstances obtaining your explicit consent before collecting it. These categories include racial or ethnicity information, political affiliations, religious, philosophical, and other similar beliefs, trade union memberships, health information, biometric or genetic data, sexual life or orientation, criminal convictions, and offenses.

Measurement technologies we use

We use a measurement tag, which we call the engagement pixel, on campaign landing pages and gated content assets. Its purpose is to record whether content was genuinely seen and read, so that we can report engagement to the sponsoring client and exclude automated or invalid traffic from what we deliver.

The engagement pixel records whether the content met a viewability threshold of at least fifty percent of the content area on screen for at least one continuous second; the time the content was actively engaged with, counted only while the browser tab was visible, focused and not idle; how far down the page you scrolled; the size of your browser window and a broad device category derived from it; the domain name of the website that referred you; the campaign the page belongs to; and a timestamp recorded to the second.

The engagement pixel does not set cookies, does not write to local storage, and does not attempt to fingerprint your device or browser. The session identifier it uses is held in memory only and ceases to exist when you navigate away or close the tab. The pixel itself does not read the contents of any form field.

Registration details are handled separately. Where you complete a registration form and tick the consent box, a distinct handler records the details you entered, such as your name, business email, company and telephone number, so that we can deliver your registration to the sponsoring client. That handler runs only on a submission where consent has been given, and does not run at all where your browser sends a Global Privacy Control or Do Not Track signal.

  • If your browser sends a Global Privacy Control or Do Not Track signal, the pixel records that signal, discards the referring domain entirely, and marks the session as privacy-restricted.
  • Your IP address is never stored. It is shortened at the point of collection to remove the most specific part of the address, then converted into an irreversible cryptographic hash using a secret that changes every day. The resulting value cannot be reversed and cannot be matched across different days.
  • Automated and invalid traffic is identified and marked so that it can be excluded from reported and billable engagement.

Engagement measured by the pixel is anonymous by default and is not connected to your name or email address. A record of engagement is only ever linked to you as an identifiable person where you have given explicit consent for that at the point of registration. Where that consent is not given, no link between your identity and the measurement data is created at any stage.

We retain raw engagement events for 90 days and summarised session records for approximately 400 days. Aggregate statistics that contain no personal information are retained for up to 3 years.

For which purposes do we use your personal information?

We limit access to your personal information to our employees and contractors who have a legitimate need to use it. We use your personal information only as needed to fulfill a specific purpose, including:

  • Complying with legal requirements to which we are subject
  • Responding to your inquiries, fulfilling your requests, providing customer service, sending administrative information, and personalizing your experience with our services
  • Improving the content and functionality of our website
  • Marketing and promoting our services to you to ensure we can conduct, improve, and increase our business.
